Can the best day and the worst day all happen in the same 2 hours? Well when you are the mother of two the answer is always a resounding YES!
I woke this morning and got to spend some time with Wyatt while Cordelia slept in (totally random, freak thing). We watched a show, read a book (more than once of course), he tells me "I love you Mama, I love you too." (Awww!) and then he did what most toddlers do, he wondered off to play by himself.
He just loves his trains. The die-cast Thomas being the favorites, he was playing and narrating the actions of the trains. “Oh no, Percy’s in trouble!” “Quick, Toby, help!” “Toby help Percy, Yay Toby!” As I’m watching I am just so amazed and filled with the love for this child. He is learning so quickly how to be a big kid and I felt like that last scene in the Grinch were the heart just keeps growing, to the point where my chest felt like it might explode. It was wonderful. I just sat and watched and listened from a distance.
Cordelia then woke, she’s not a screamer (thank goodness for a video monitor) and she was just quietly gooing and kicking, waiting for me to come. I went up and as is the norm these days, she blew out of the diaper. Usually it just requires a few extra wipes and quick load of laundry, but today was a whopper. I ran a bath and then stripped her and bathed her, the only option, and did my very best not to gag. Most babies don’t have very stinky poop at 2 months, but not my kiddos, yuck! So, she’s clean and I take her in to get her dressed and Wyatt comes up to me and says, “Mama, stinky.” I of course am assuming that he has to go, but that’s what I get for assuming…. He’s already gone in his big boy pants! Poor Cordelia gets left on a towel in her diaper on the floor while I run Wyatt to the bathroom, strip him and bathe him too. Back to the bedroom, Wyatt sits on the towel, finish dressing Cordelia, then dress Wyatt while Cordelia screams that she’s hungry. Everyone downstairs.
I fed Cordelia and Wyatt played some more. Then we all get to sit together to read a book. After the story I laid Cordelia on her play mat and Wyatt and I made faces and talked to her. And once again my heart was just swelling with love for my munchkins. Wyatt just loves his sister and she is so beautiful and already growing way too fast. She is grabbing the toys in front of her with one hand, then with both she brings the toy to her mouth. Such an accomplishment! I just love this stage of complete wonder and learning that she is in. And she is already scooting across the floor on her back and she’s starting to arch, so I think she’ll be rolling soon. Amazing!!Some days being a mom is hard, but it’s still the best job on Earth.
