Had my appointment, it was gruesome and excruciating. The long haul from the van to the office was enough to completely wear me out, then came the stack of paperwork. Finally I get to go back into a room, the nurse removed my bandages and I see my "new leg" for the first time. It was not pretty. 9 staples on the outside ankle, 7 on the inside. Then she preceded to remove all those staples. I did my best not to pass out but it took everything I had and left me drenched in sweat. The nurse leaves and in comes the doctor, I'm still too swollen for a cast or a boot so he tells me that he will be having it re wrapped in the surgical bandages. I asked how long and said I'm not allowed to put ANY pressure on it for 6 weeks, that's more than 4 more weeks to go. I asked to see the x-rays, and it's way worse than Christian or I originally thought. The spot on the smaller bone that we were calling 2 breaks is considered 1 break with multiple fracture points (splintering), that's where the plate was placed with 6 screws. Then the larger bone was broken in 2 places, one requiring 2 screws and the other is a hairline fracture just requiring immobilization. I'm really cranky and more than a little frustrated. This is a really long recovery process and I just don't know how we are going to make it through.
Anyhow, my next appointment is in 2 weeks, I'll be having follow-up x-rays as well as new bandaging of some sort.
