We went to Moses Lake, Washington last weekend to see the new NASA test rovers and visit with Oma and Pop-Pop. We had a wonderful time. We got there Friday night and swam in the hotel pool (which Cordelia loved, she kept jumping off the stairs into the deeper water and then laughing). Saturday we went out to the sand dunes so see some of the new equipment NASA was testing. There was a large crane, which lifts the living pod (called the Athlete) onto wheels so it's like a little space motor home. There were a few small robotic scouts that they were driving around (looking like they were taking them for walks). There was a core drill called the Scarab that Wyatt actually got to use the remote control and move around. Then the "big deal", the Chariot, showed up. It's the main rover they were testing, it looks pretty awesome. There were nasty sand storms while we checking everything out because it was so windy, so we only stayed for a few hours. After that we checked out the downtown area, had some dinner and then the boys went fishing while the girls stayed in. Sunday we visited the local Japanese Gardens before hitting the road for home.
It was a nice trip, but for the record, the drive up and through the mountains is much prettier in the summer than driving south and around through the desert. =p
Approx. 5 1/2 minutes.
